How People Find Entertainment in Difficult Times
Have you ever thought why people cannot seem to put entertainment aside? Just imagine, the entertainment industry remains very much alive regardless of whether the economy goes up or down. This simply shows that people will still find the time and spend money to go to the movies or concerts even when life is a bit tough at the moment.
But why is that? The truth is, entertainment plays a very vital role in our welfare as individuals. You see, entertainment gets people together and provides an avenue for them to bond. It helps them escape, for the time being, away from all the hassles and pressures that their daily life brings.
In this article, we will try to look at how people manage to find entertainment despite the troubles all around them. We will look at three events and see how people are able to sneak entertainment even in such time.
Entertainment During the Great Depression
The Great Depression is aptly named because it truly was a time that brought so much depression to people. However, it did not stop people from finding ways to have fun. Entertainment was still very much alive during this time. Of course, since it was a time of great hardships, the entertainment themselves were not very expensive, mostly of which are home made.
Although rodeo and football were still very popular during those times, most people found fun in the company of their neighbors. Cards and other games were played between neighbors to pass time. People also find Church activities as a way to socialize with their community and meet people.
Entertainment During the Civil War
War is always a very trying time regardless of which era we are talking about. Despite all the carnage, though, people still find time to laugh and have fun. This is particularly true even among soldiers who were in the frontline.
Milton Barrett, in one of his letter in 1863, wrote that they would spend time reading letters, novels, and the Bible in between battles. They even exchange newspaper with enemy troops. Gambling was also a prevalent outlet for these soldiers.
Entertainment During a Hurricane
While wars and the Great depression seemed a bit too distant, the attitude of people to find fun and entertainment is still very much alive. Let us take for example what a lot of people are doing during times of storms and hurricanes.
Have you ever heard of the Hurricane drinking game? Well, as the name suggests, this is a perfect pastime during storms. We all know how power outages are very common during storms and hurricanes, moreover, watching the news before the losing power can be boring.
As an alternative, people just come up with a bunch of different things to do, the hurricane drinking game included, just to keep themselves occupied and get their minds off the fact that things can turn out to be miserable in the coming days.
Having fun is an innate part of our psyche. Regardless of the hardships around us we always find ways to have fun. Maybe that is how we are designed to be. Having does not solve any problem, but they allow you to keep the stress away.
